It is hard to loose a mom. Although her passing left you and your family with broken hearts, I am sure you are at the same time happy for her because she is finally in peace and now with our Maker. We will continue to pray for your mom, and also pray for your family as you recover from this great loss. Let me share with you something…

I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death.
They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make.
Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories.
We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love.

“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, but love leaves a memory no one can steal.”

Love,

Rico and Joanna

I was supposed to dress up as a butterfly but I realized, at my age, I’m too old to wear wings and an antennae. Rico, my fiancee who happens to be a Star Wars fanatic, suggested that I  dress up as Padme Amidala.

Coming up with a costume wasn’t at all hard. I just wore a long sleeved white blouse and a pair of white pants. I had a makeshift white cape, a pair of metallic armbands made out of aluminum foil and cardboard, and a holster belt that I made myself. For the holster belt, I used an old belt, katcha, and cardboard. I made small cardboard pockets, wrapped them and the old belt with katcha, and then glued them together using a glue gun.

To make sure that people identify me as Padme Amidala instead of Princess Leia, a ghost, a while lady, etc., I covered my face with foundation and white powder, placed a red dot on each of my cheeks, and drew a small vertical red line across the middle of my lips.  To complete the costume, I brought a my fiancee’s light saber.

Looking for a last minute halloween costume? You can rent one from Camp Suki Clothier located at #88 Fort St., New Manila, Quezon City. Camp Suki is a haven of cool clothes and costumes. You can rent a costume for as low as 750 pesos. Be prepared to deposit about a thousand pesos upon renting. Their phone number is 7120435.

I rarely read newspapers and has stopped watching news on T.V.  I wasn’t aware of the Melamine poisoning in China until after a friend told me about it.

Melamine is an organic substance included in pesticides, and used to make counter tops, dry erase boards, glue, fabric, and many more. Melamine has been reported to be added to food products in order to increase the apparent protein content. This issue was brought up after cases of poisoning in China was reported. Melamine by itself is nontoxic in low doses, but when it is combined with another substance, cyanuric acid, it can cause the kidneys to fail due to kidney stones. Melamine is harmful whether swollowed, inhaled, or absorbed by the skin.  Below is a list of milk and milk products where Melamine was detected as of October 23, 2008:

  • Greenwood Yili Fresh Milk (in  chinese character);
  • JollyCow Slender High Calcium Low Fat Milk (more Calcium and vitamin D) 1 liter
  • LOTTE B+W KOALA Biscuit
  • LOTTE Chocolate Snack KOALA Biscuit
  • Mengniu Drink (in Chinese Character)

Watch what you eat!

I hosted a birthday party for my friend, Ivan, who was turning 8. He wanted a Ben 10 pool party. Unfortunately, since his birthday fell on a rainy season, we decided to hold his party at McDonalds instead of holding it in a resort.

McDonalds did not have a Ben 10 theme, so we decided to just go for the usual Super McTroopers theme and just added Ben 10 details. Instead of sending out the Super McTroopers invitations, I made Ivan’s Ben 10 invitations myself. I searched online for the perfect Ben 10 photo, used Adobe Photoshop to add texts, saved the file as .jpeg, and had copies of the .jpeg file printed in photo paper at a Kodak branch. A Ben 10 invitation with a map leading to the birthday venue were sent to each of Ivan’s classmates and closest friends. We ordered a nice Ben 10 cake from Red Ribbon and arranged a Ben 10 costume for Ivan to wear on his special day. We had his Ben 10 shirt made at the spray painting shop, ArtWorkz. We also bought him a Diamond Face mask and an Omnitrix to complete his costume. (more…)

Carmine forwarded a good one… allow me to share it with you too.

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility. (more…)
