Family

Bonifacio High Street is a good place to bring your kids. It has wide grassy spaces - designed to accommodate children who likes to run, hop, and jump around. They have interactive outdoor displays and toys that they would surely enjoy playing with. (more…)

It is hard to loose a mom. Although her passing left you and your family with broken hearts, I am sure you are at the same time happy for her because she is finally in peace and now with our Maker. We will continue to pray for your mom, and also pray for your family as you recover from this great loss. Let me share with you something…

I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death.
They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make.
Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories.
We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love.

“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, but love leaves a memory no one can steal.”

Love,

Rico and Joanna

I rarely read newspapers and has stopped watching news on T.V.  I wasn’t aware of the Melamine poisoning in China until after a friend told me about it.

Melamine is an organic substance included in pesticides, and used to make counter tops, dry erase boards, glue, fabric, and many more. Melamine has been reported to be added to food products in order to increase the apparent protein content. This issue was brought up after cases of poisoning in China was reported. Melamine by itself is nontoxic in low doses, but when it is combined with another substance, cyanuric acid, it can cause the kidneys to fail due to kidney stones. Melamine is harmful whether swollowed, inhaled, or absorbed by the skin.  Below is a list of milk and milk products where Melamine was detected as of October 23, 2008:

  • Greenwood Yili Fresh Milk (in  chinese character);
  • JollyCow Slender High Calcium Low Fat Milk (more Calcium and vitamin D) 1 liter
  • LOTTE B+W KOALA Biscuit
  • LOTTE Chocolate Snack KOALA Biscuit
  • Mengniu Drink (in Chinese Character)

Something nice from my Ate Ace. This is for those who are currently in a relationship, planning to get into a new relationship, getting married, and already married..

1.      Avoid Conflict. Avoided conflict requires repression of anger, which leads to depression of feelings. A genuinely passionate partnership requires conflict, not terminal niceness or withdrawal.
2.      Avoid each other. Occasional withdrawal is healthy. Habitual withdrawal (stonewalling) is death to a partnership.
3.      Escalate. Conflict, skillfully handled, is one of the keys to a great relationship. Conflict out of control is an excuse for physical, verbal or psychological abuse. (more…)

Rico is just one of a series of names people have been using to refer to me, hence, my name’s evolution came from  Amorrico  to my uncle and Lola. Boi  (Bo- ih) to one of my uncle’s friends in “Galas”, where people are always “up and ready” ….(if u  know what I mean) Ricky  to my friends  in high school. I am  Red to College friends … Papsie to my family. And now i am Rico to my Joanna.

It’s nice to look back when people called you weird and unheard of names. Some names fitted you and some were just nicknamed to you because of the trend. I’ve had so many shards of my past lives I realized the only good thing that came out of it  is that nothing’s  routinary or boring. Different  circles of people expect different sides of you.   For every name hence a corresponding personality. The  bad side to it is that you can never really know who you are, what you are  and where you belong.

After being  my Grandmother’s  beloved, my father’s  pride, a bad frat boy-boyfriend  in college,  and  now a I am just simply a lover, a best friend, and a boyfriend.

This may sound crazy to you, but the last time i attended a funeral was my Lolo Carlos Contreras Sto. Domingo who died sometime in 1992. It was a reunion of sorts since my Lolo had his way with the ladies of his generation and ended up with more than 5 wives. You can imagine how many siblings my dad have, and more so how many cousins we are in total. It was definitely as ludicrous and hilarious as it can be. It was a celebration of sorts bordering nearly on a circus. I had a great time meeting and greeting my cousins even though i had a hard time remembering their names. I went to the funeral but not the burial rites though. (more…)

My grandfather and my daughter adored and loved each other. When he was about to pass away I had difficulty finding the right words to narrate his condition to her. I found it even more difficult to explain his death.  (more…)
