A child with mental retardation may not necessarilly be with a learning disability. As we know, someone diagnosed with mental retardation has to have 75-70 in his or  her IQ score. Somone with a learning disability does not necessarily have low or high intelligence. It was said that, even though learning disabilities may occur along side with  other handicapping conditions such as mental retardation, it is not the direct result of those conditions or influences.

Mental retardation is defined as a disability characterized by significant limitations both in intellectual functioning and in adaptive behavior. Intellectual functioning, or the ability of a person to learn, think, solve problems, and make sense of the world, is usually measured by an IQ test where people scoring below 75-70 are thought to have mental retardation. It must coexist with limitations in adaptive behavior or the lack/absence of skills a person needs to live independently. Significant limitations impact a person’s daily life and affect the ability to respond to a part of situation or to the environment. In diagnosis we also look at how much support or help the person needs to get along at home, in school, and in the community. Adaptive behavior is being assessed by either observing the individual in situations where these skills are required, or by interviewing those who know the individual well.

2008 was a year of growth. Rico turned 31, Mia turned 5, and I turned 27. The three of us gained a considerable amount of weight and have grown 1 size bigger. This was probably because of our excessive eating and lack of exercise.

2008 was a year of maturity. The three of us became more mature as we are now able to communicate more openly. I have finally learned to be more honest and vocal of my thoughts and emotions, while Rico became more receptive, patient, and understanding. Mia became more talkative and assertive of her wants and needs.  (more…)

I have been struggling to lose weight since November. I JUST NEED TO GO BACK TO MY OLD SUPER SEXY FORM! (more…)

Link building is important.  Building links with other blogs, meta tagging, and increasing traffic are actually one of the Top 10 factors to getting your site positioned on Google. If you want your weblog to be visible in Google, these are some of the things you have to do. You might ask, ”Why should I do these?”  The reason has everything to do with Google and the method it uses which ranks sites for its search engine. If your site has a high rank, there is a greater chance of your site landing in the first 5 pages of the search results.

A lot of my friends have started building their own weblogs. For more link building - and trafficing action… click the links below to check their weblogs.

I have learned a lot from my stay in Australia. Thanks to my friends, classmates, and teachers in Canberra, I was able to, somehow, understand the Australian way of speaking.

Let me share with you a brief history of what Australian English is. Australian English was developed during years of isolation from other english-speaking people. There are 3 types of Australians these days, we have the original Australians or the aboriginies, the old Australians, and new Australians or the people who migrated from other countries. Australian english is spoken by the great majority - old Australians, native born, locally educated, or the country’s citizens. (more…)
